The legacy of the Colt Government Model is well known. From the battlefields of Normandy, to the jungles of Vietnam, this combat proven firearm has tirelessly served our Armed Forces for more than a century. This pistol features the legendary Series 70 firing system, making it a faithful reproduction to Government Models manufactured prior to World War II. Even my dad, who never approves of anything
Forty-year shooter, opinion of most modern guns ranges from "plastic junk" to "acceptable". He picked this up, dry-fired it, rang the steel target three times in a row, and said "not bad". From him that's an endorsement.
Average build quality
Nothing's broken, nothing's particularly impressive either. The slide-to-frame fit is loose but within spec, the trigger is heavier than I'd like, and the finish is starting to wear faster than I expected at 400 rounds.
Good build, sights left me wanting more
I'm probably being picky. The sights work, they're durable, they're not blacked out. They're also not particularly fast to pick up. A small detail in an otherwise solid package - easy upgrade if it bothers you.
Smooth slide, smart layout
Slide racks smoother than guns I've shot at double the price. Controls are exactly where my thumb expects them, no fumbling for the mag release. Semi-Auto system gives a consistent break every time.
Mag release is a little stiff
Otherwise this is a strong gun for the money. Reliability has been textbook, sights are good, frame fits my medium-glove hand well. Just wish the mag release didn't require quite as much thumb pressure for fast reloads.
