New for 2025, the H&K VP9A1 is the latest iteration of the world famous VP9 handgun series, retaining all of the features shooters have grown to love and adding a full complement of upgrades. One of the most notable improvements is upgraded ergonomics with a set of four replaceable backstraps. This includes the S and M backstraps that change the circumference of the palmswell as well as two additional backstraps that can be used to adjust the distance from the trigger to the back of the grip. The VP9A1 also comes with interchangeable side panels, and when combined with the backstraps, the user can create dozens of grip configurations.
The HK VP9A1 upgrades revolve around an improved trigger; grip frame and the controls. Featuring an enhanced nickel-Teflon coated trigger; adjustable LOP and customizable grip with included backstraps; high visibility tritium front sight with a clean, black serrated rear sight; flared mag well; improved ambidextrous controls; serrated surface on the frame provides a tactical reference point, recess cut in magazine case base. Includes Holosun SCS Super Green, two magazines, interchangeable backstraps and side grips.

Build feels older than its years
Reminds me of pistols built before everyone started cutting weight at every opportunity. Solid, balanced, not toy-like at all. Sights are steel, controls are positive, frame doesn't flex when you grip hard.
Will recommend, with one caveat
Tell anyone asking that this is a strong pick at the price. Just warn them that the 4" barrel makes for a slightly louder report than its longer-barrelled cousins - invest in good hearing protection before your first range trip.
Good gun, mediocre case
The firearm itself is exactly what I wanted in a 9mm. Trigger is crisp, accuracy is fine, recoil is manageable. The lockable hard case it ships in feels like an afterthought though - I'd budget for a real storage solution.
Fits my hand, not for everyone
Caveat upfront: I have medium-small hands. This this brand grip frame fits me perfectly. My buddy with bear-paw hands found it cramped. Try one in person if you can before you buy - fit really matters here.
