The Springfield Armory Mil-Spec, like all Springfield 1911s, features a carbon steel frame and slide that is fully forged, rather than cast, for the utmost durability. The 5-inch Match Grade stainless steel barrel is also forged for lifetimes of use. The slide has slanted serrations and the mainspring housing is the original arched style found on GI issue 1911-A1s. The Mil-Spec 1911 also features fixed 3-dot sights, a lowered and flared ejection port, and a single-sided thumb safety. Each Mil-Spec comes with fully-checkered wood grips, unique to this Defenders Series model. This classic 1911 has a Parkerized finish to combat corrosion, and comes with one 7-round magazine. Specifications:
  • Weight: 39oz
  • # of Mags: 1
  • Overall Length: 8.6"

Even my dad, who never approves of anything
Forty-year shooter, opinion of most modern guns ranges from "plastic junk" to "acceptable". He picked this up, dry-fired it, rang the steel target three times in a row, and said "not bad". From him that's an endorsement.

Almost flawless out of the box
Five-star gun with one annoying detail: the slide release sits in a spot where my thumb pre-rides it under recoil, occasionally locking the slide back early. Adjusting my grip is the fix, but it took me a session to figure out.

Glad I waited and got this one
Had my eye on something else for months, but a friend handed me this at the range and that was the end of the deliberation. Better ergonomics, better trigger, better price - easy decision once you actually hold it.

Will recommend, with one caveat
Tell anyone asking that this is a strong pick at the price. Just warn them that the 5" barrel makes for a slightly louder report than its longer-barrelled cousins - invest in good hearing protection before your first range trip.

Held up to a long day at the range
Six hours of training, roughly 800 rounds of cheap brass with one box of premium hollow points mixed in. Zero stoppages. Hot barrel, dirty internals, and it never hiccuped once. That's reliability.
